Coe College used a big second quarter, scoring 31 points and held the Buena Vista offense to 242 yards of total offense, as the Kohawks shutout the Beavers during Saturday's Iowa Conference opener, 51-0.

The Kohawks (4-0, 1-0 IIAC), who completed their first 20 pass attempts of the game, got a five-yard touchdown pass after a Beaver fumble early in the first quarter before adding a two-yard rushing touchdown late in the quarter for a 13-0 advantage.

The Kohawks then forced the Beavers to punt on their first three possessions of the second quarter and followed each one with scoring drives and a trio of rushing touchdowns.  They then capitalized on BVU's second fuumble of the half and added their fourth touchdown of the half to go in front 41-0.  A late field goal made the score 44-0 at the half.

Coe would added its final touchdown in the third quarter before each team was held scoreless in the fourth.

Senior John Hill rushed for a season-high 96 yards to help lead the Beaver rushing attack, while sophomore Dylan Barrett added 45 yards on seven carries.  Quarterback Bobby Brown completed 10-of-23 attempts through the air for 114 yards, while being intercepted twice and sacked four times.

As a team, BVU turned the ball over four times in the game.  Coe, meanwhile, posted 282 yards through the air and 251 more on the ground.

Defensively, Nick Plueger turned in 13 total tackles with Brady Randall right behind with eight.

Buena Vista is now 0-4 on the year (0-1 IIAC) and will return to J. Leslie Rollins Stadium next Saturday for the first time since opening day when it host Wartburg College at 1:00pm.  The game has also been tabbed as Take a Kid to the Game Day.
