Cross Country Strong in Season Debut at Simpson

The Buena Vista cross country teams got their 2012 season underway on Friday afternoon by running in the Bill Buxton Invite, hosted by Simpson College, and had sophomore Holly Neutzman (Wall Lake, Iowa/East Sac County) capture the winning time in the women's 4k race.

Neutzman, who crossed the finish line in 17:01.7, was joined in the front of the race by teammate Ashtyn Alfers (Minden, Iowa/Tri Center), who posted a clocking of 17:24.9 in her collegiate debut.


Veronica King (Manning, Iowa/IKM-Manning) and Brandy Richards (Linn Grove, Iowa/Sioux Central) placed 26th and 27th, respectively, for BVU.

The host Storm, who had six runners finish in the top 12, took home the team title with 26 points.

On the men's side, sophomore Alex Lamp (Webster City, Iowa/Webster City) gave the Beavers their third top-five finish of the day, as he crossed the finish line in fourth with a time of 21:06.9.  Teammate Aaron Roberts (Audubon, Iowa/Audubon) was close behind in fifth, reaching the end in 21:24.4.

BVU captured 10th-14th places and finished the dual with the Storm with 38 points.  Simpson landed three of the top-four runners and closed the race with 20 points.

The Beavers will now have a week off before resuming its schedule at the Iowa Intercollegiate Championships, which is ran at Iowa State University on September 15 beginning at 11:00am.
