The Buena Vista cross country teams took part in a strong field of teams on Saturday during the Jim Drews/Tori Neuhbauer Invitational, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Freshman Alex Lamp (Webster City, Iowa/Webster City) was the top finisher for the Beavers on the men’s side placing 129th out of the more than 400 runners.  He reached the finish line in 27:34 – only seven seconds off a season-best and 30 seconds from finishing in the top 95.  Jared Bruce (Aurelia, Iowa/Aurelia) was next for BVU in 27:54, while Aaron Roberts was only 13 seconds behind him in 28:07. 

Ryan Marzen (Dougherty, Iowa/North Butler) turned in a season-best clocking of 28:47, shaving 22 seconds off of his previous best.  Brian Christiansen (St. James, Minn./St. James) and Dan Pearson (Spirit Lake, Iowa/Spirit Lake), each turned in season-best times for the team, as Corey Hannula (Maplewood, Minn./Math and Science Academy) rounded out the line-up, running his first 8k of the year.

Iowa Central’s Stanley Kebenei took the individual title in 24:21, finishing nearly one minute in front of his own teammate, Jamal Boma.

Holly Nuetzman (Wall Lake, Iowa/East Sac County) shaved more than two minutes of her 6k time from a week ago to help lead the BVU women.  Megan Long (Lyons, Neb./Lyons Decatur) also improved by more than two minutes, while Emily Erickson (Pine City, Minn./Pine City) rounded out the line-up.

Nebraska Wesleyan’s Hannah Kinberg was the champion by eight seconds over Wartburg’s Emily Eimers.

The runners now have two weeks off before competing at the IIAC Championships in Decorah, Iowa on October 29.
