Buena Vista senior 184-pounder Brian Broll picked up a third period pin on Wednesday night to secure his 100th career victory, but it wasn’t quite enough as Dakota Wesleyan picked up pins in the final two matches to help secure a 33-18 win over the Beavers.
Broll becomes the 13th wrestler in BVU history to reach the milestone and the first to do so since Andy Krueger did so during the 1999-00 campaign.
His pin brought BVU back within three at 21-18, but DWU picked up pins in each of the last two matches to secure the win.
Broll, who improves to 13-1 on the year, pushes his career record to 100-22.
“Getting to 100 wins will be exciting,” he said earlier in the week. “It was something I was never able to accomplish in high school.”
Branden Schultz won by forfeit at 125 pounds to give the Beavers the early 6-0 lead and after a major decision from DWU, sophomore Steve Gutschenritter extended the BVU advantage to 12-4 when he pinned Karl Bell in 2:55.
DWU then took the next four matches before Broll kept things close with his pin.
Buena Vista is now 0-2 overall in duals this season and will be back in action again on Saturday when the team competes at the Hastings Open beginning at 9:00am.
