Sophomore Seth Woodson has officially secured his spot into the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships which take place from May 23-25 and hosted by the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He'll take part in the men's 800 meter run which runs on Friday.
Woodson earned his qualification into the championships last Thursday during the NCAA Qualifier Meet after setting a new school record with a time of 1:51.52. He'll return to that same track this week, looking to become BVU's first outdoor track and field All-American since Morgan Darrow (shot put) took fifth in 2010.
A total of 20 runners will compete in the preliminary race which is scheduled to run on Friday, May 24 at 7:25pm. The finals will then be run on Saturday, May 25 at 4:30pm.
Woodson could become the program's first-ever all-american in the 800 meter run. He'll enter this week's competition with the 10th fastest qualifying time, but is only just over a second from the second-fastest.
Current BVU head coach Jeff Brennan - who saw Woodson break his school record - was the last to capture all-american accolades in an 800 meter run for BVU, but that came at the NCAA Indoor Championships back in 2001.
Eric Bertelsen (long jump) was the last Beaver to win a national outdoor title (2009). Jessica Jensen (2002) was the last to capture a national outdoor title in a running event, when she did so in the 400 meter hurdles.
