
The Buena Vista volleyball team opened the Hamline University Tournament on Friday with a pair of tough setbacks against UW-La Crosse and UW-River Falls, respectively.
Junior Chelsea Clayton turned in a team-high six kills in the opener with Kirsten Van Zuiden right behind with nine kills and a team-leading 14 digs. Courtney Van Haaften dished out 23 assists, while also tallying eight digs.
Against UW-River Falls (5-1), Van Zuiden and Jena Peters each posted six kills, as BVU finished with a .344 hitting percentage. Van Haaften tallied 16 assists with Chelsea Gubbels chiming in with 11 digs.
UW-River Falls took the first two sets, 25-12, 25-17 before the Beavers hung tough in the third before falling 25-23.
Buena Vista is now 1-6 overall and will now wrap up the tournament on Saturday with matches against UW-Stout and Hamline University at 2:00pm and 4:00pm, respectively. BVU then plays its home opener when it also opens Iowa Conference play on Wednesday night, September 12 against Simpson College.
