Football to Begin Road Trip with Game at Concordia College

Sep. 7, 2012
Storm Lake, Iowa

The Buena Vista football team returns to action again this Saturday when it travels to Concordia College-Moorhead to begin a three-game road trip following last weekend’s 56-13 loss to #23 UW-Platteville to begin the 2012 campaign.

The Cobbers (1-0) begin their home schedule after picking up a season-opening 42-26 road victory at Jamestown College (N.D.).  The team, picked to finish fifth in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), has 16 starters back from a year ago, including nine on defense.

BVU will go against that defense looking to build momentum early in the game after being held to only 168 yards of total offense against the Pioneers.  Sophomore Dylan Barrett gained 57 of those yards when he scored the team’s second touchdown of the contest early in the fourth quarter.

It was a defensive battle throughout the first half of last year’s contest with the Cobbers holding a 13-0 lead at the break before scoring once in the third quarter and twice more in the fourth for the 35-14 victory.

Peter Hvidston and Matt Moenkedick, who are both among those back from 2011, posted 21 and 17 total tackles, respectively a week ago.  The unit allowed 227 yards through the air and 122 more on the ground.

Junior Brady Randall led all players with 10 total stops against the Pioneers with senior Nick Plueger right behind with nine.

The group will be facing a Cobber offense which ran for 211 yards last week, led by Baun Baune who rushed 16 times for 71 yards and one touchdown.  He rushed 18 times and scored three times against the Beavers in 2011.

Quarterback Griffin Neal, who made his first career start, threw for 144 yards with his arm, including three touchdowns.  He threw only four passes all of last season.

Game time between the two teams is scheduled for 1:00pm inside of Jake Christiansen Stadium.  A local radio broadcast can be found at 97.5FM KBVU.
