Men's Golf Finishes Strong at Wartburg Spring Invite

Apr. 16, 2012
Waverly, Iowa

All five of the Buena Vista men’s golf team posted scored in the 70’s on Sunday to close out the Wartburg College Spring Invite in strong fashion, while also moving up and placing eighth overall out of 18 teams.

Jaron Smool carded the team’s low round of the day (76), but was closely followed by Andrew Zinn and Mitch Kyle Auffert, who each tallied a final round 78.  Mitch Brunick and Troy Ticknor rounded out the team’s round by each posting rounds of 79.

Zinn’s two-round total of 153 landed him in a tie for 22nd overall, while Smool and Brunick were one and two shots behind him, respectively.’

The team fired a second straight 311 and finished with the fourth-lowest round of the day overall.  Overall, its final score of 621 was just six strokes back of a top-five finish.

Kirkwood Community College tallied 298 on both days to win the overall team title by seven strokes over runner-up Hastings College.  The host Knights, who held the team lead after an opening-round 297, posted a 314 on Sunday and finished fourth.

Buena Vista will be back out on the course again next Friday and Saturday (April 20 and 21) when it hosts its annual BVU Spring Invite out at Lake Creek Country Club.
