
The Buena Vista track and field teams were back in action on Saturday as it traveled up north to take part in the Dordt College Invite.
Freshman Casey James took fifth in the women’s 55 meter dash in a career-best time of 7.61 seconds which is just over three-tenths of a second way from matching the school record for the event. Laura Eberly, despite not making the finals, did run a season-best time of 7.73 seconds, which was one-tenth faster than last week’s time.
Abby Hesnard improved her 600 meter time for the second straight outing, crossing the finish line in 1:51.34 to take eighth. That clocking was two seconds faster than last week.
Rachel Burnette reached the finish line in 8.98 during the 55 meter hurdles, improving on her 9.41 from the Dennis Young Classic. She also took fourth overall in the event.
Molly Hutchins went nearly one meter farther in the weight throw, recording a toss of 10.39 meters, while Hailey Henrichs went over one meter further, tossing 10.10 meters. Her previous best was 8.85 meters.
Over on the men’s side, Christian Cottingham ran a 6.93 in the 55 meter dash, and despite not making the finals, improved on last weekend’s time of 7.19 seconds. Doug Bohaty went one-tenth of a second faster in the 200 meter dash, and despite finishing 27th overall, was only two seconds off the winning time. He later placed fifth in the 55 meter hurdles in a time of 8.43 seconds, but it was his preliminary time of 8.07 seconds that was a career-best by three-tenths.
A trio of Beavers finished in the top eight of the 600 meter run, led by Ryan Eberly’s sixth place finish of 1:27.39. Christian Cottingham and Brian Patterson followed in seventh and eighth, respectively, and all three finished within five seconds of the winning time.
The team also turned in a season-best time in the 4x800 meter relay, crossing the finish line in more than 1:20 faster than its season-opening time.
In field events, Tyler Case took seventh in the long jump with a leap of 6.43 meters. DJ Smith also took part and bettered his best jump of 5.82 by going 5.88 meters.
Both teams will return to action on Saturday, February 11, when they host the annual BVU Open inside of the Lamberti Recreation Center beginning at 9:30am.
