Buena Vista senior men's basketball player Jeff Janssen has been recognized by the Iowa Conference office for his play on the court this past week by being named the IIAC Male Athlete of the Week.
Janssen averaged 19.0 points while shooting 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from the field and 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from 3-point range. He scored 17 points in an 83-77 victory over Wartburg Jan. 25, then added a game-high 21 in a 69-68 win over Central on Jan. 28. Against the Dutch, Janssen hit five of eight shots from behind the 3-point line and was key in helping the Beavers climb back from a nine-point deficit with five minutes left. His five three-pointers set a new personal single-season career-high (41) and moved him into seventh on the program's career 3-pointers list (138).
BVU has now won five-straight games and sits at 11-8 overall (7-3 IIAC). Janssen is averaging a team-best 15.8ppg during that span. The Beavers return to the court again on Wednesday night for a trip to Loras College to try and complete the season-sweep against the Duhawks.
