Beaver Track and Field Teams Post More High Marks over the Weekend

Jan. 23, 2012
Storm Lake, Iowa

The Buena Vista track and field teams were back in action over the weekend after opening the season last week at the Wartburg Relays.

A few select individuals took part at the ISU Open on Friday evening. Senior Stefan Petersen (Audubon, Iowa/Audubon) matched a career indoor personal-best in the long jump with his leap of 6.57 meters en route to a sixth-place finish.  On the women’s side, freshmen Maggie Marker (Clarion, Iowa/Clarion-Goldfield) and Laura Eberly (Manning, Iowa/IKM-Manning) ran in the 200 meter dash and finished with times of 27.29 and 27.95, respectively.

The team then took part in the Wayne State Open on Saturday and brought home several high finishes.  Four individuals on the women’s side placed in the top-six in the 60 meter dash for the Beavers.  Casey James (Lenox, Iowa/Orient-Macksburg) took second in 8.28, while Marker and Eberly finished third and fourth, respectively, in 8.35 and 8.40 seconds.  Those two each shaved more than a tenth of a second off their times from last week’s season opener.  Trisha Nowatzke (Harlan, Iowa/Harlan) was sixth at 8.57.

Holly Neutzman (Sac City, Iowa/East Sac County) was the top finisher for BVU in the 200 meter dash, taking fifth in 28.56 seconds.  Abby Hesnard (Sac City, Iowa/East Sac County) was eighth at 29.27.  Rachel Burnette (Irwin, Iowa/IKM-Manning) was fourth in the 60 meter hurdles, reaching the finish line in 10.17 seconds.

The Beaver 4x400 meter relay team was fifth in 4:34 only three seconds out of fourth.  In field events, Molly Hutchins (Spirit Lake, Iowa/Spirit Lake) took sixth in the shot put with a toss of 11.86 meters, improving upon last week’s mark by nearly one meter.  Fellow thrower Haley Henrichs (Beresford, S.D./Beresford) did much of the same, finishing with a toss of 9.93 meters which surpassed last week’s toss of 9.01 meters.  Bridgett Hasche (Rock Rapids, Iowa/Central Lyon) was just off her career-best toss in the weight throw, finishing with a mark of 12.52 meters, which fell just 0.02 meters short.  Amber Reidy (Grand Island, Neb./Grand Island Northwest) was third in the pole vault at 2.95 meters.

Over on the men’s side, Collin Mann (Logan, Iowa/Logan-Magnolia) placed sixth in the 26-man field of the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.61 seconds.  He was just over a second off of the winning time.  Doug Bohaty (Wahoo, Neb./Bishop Neumann) took second in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.94 seconds, shaving 0.02 seconds off his first collegiate finish last week.  Tyler Campbell (Kingsley, Iowa/KP-WC) and Reid Zimmerman (Kimballton, Iowa/ElkHorn) were close behind in fourth and fifth places, respectively.  Campbell’s time was nearly two-tenths faster than last week.

The Beavers will be back on the track this Saturday when the team hosts the annual Dennis Young Invite inside of the Lamberti Recreation Center.  Field events are scheduled to get underway at 9:30am.
