In the opener, Morningside won the first three matches, including two with bonus points, to take a 12-0 lead. Sophomore Seth Shatto (Estherville, Iowa/ELC) was edged, 5-4, in the next bout to Jordan Langley.
The Mustangs then broke the dual open with three straight forfeits before ending with two more victories.
BVU received a pair of forfeits to begin its dual with Northwestern to take a 12-0 lead. Morningside then won back-to-back matches at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively, to climb back within 15-7.
Shatto extended the Beavers lead back up to 18-7 with his convincing 7-1 victory at 165 pounds. It was just the second time he had moved up a weight all season, and he’s now 2-0 at the weight and 17-10 overall.
The Red Raiders then grabbed their first lead of the dual after getting back-to-back forfeits at 174 and 184, respectively, before closing out with a pair of decisions.
