Andrew Zinn posted an opening round of three-over 75, while Mitch Brunick and Jaron Smool followed with scores of 76 and 78 to help lead the Buena Vista men’s golf team on Saturday during the opening round of the Wartburg College Spring Invite.
Zinn was three-over on his first nine holes and came in even-par to find himself in a tie for 19th place overall. Kyle Auffert and Troy Ticknor round out the scores for BVU after carded rounds of 81 and 82, respectively.
Only 13 strokes separate the Beavers (310) and the host Knights (297), who lead the team race heading into Sunday’s final round.
BVU holds a one stroke lead over both Dakota Wesleyan and the Wartburg College “B” teams.
Coe College’s Garrett Cross fired a three-under 69 and is the clubhouse leader by one stroke over John Sexton (Wartburg) and Cody Vance (Hastings).
Sunday’s final round action will tee-off with a shotgun start beginning at 8:00am.
