Baseball Edged by Norse on Saturday in Series Finale

Apr. 7, 2012
Decorah, Iowa

The Buena Vista baseball team out-hit Luther College, 10-9, on Saturday morning during their series finale, but it was the Norse getting a pair of runs in the third and single runs in the seventh and eighth to top the Beavers, 4-0.

The Norse got a two-out RBI single in the second followed by an unearned run later in the frame.  That was all the scoring in the game until Luther got another RBI single in the seventh followed by a run-scoring double in the eighth.

Ten different players had one hit for BVU in the contest, and all 10 hits were singles.  The team couldn’t quite come through with the big hit when it needed it most, stranding nine runners in the contest.

Sophomore Jon Ringblom was the hard-luck loser in the contest, going seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned), while scattering seven hits and striking out two.  Lucas Hadaway came on in relief to pitch the final inning and was charged with one run on two hits, while striking out one and walking one.

Buena Vista is now 11-12 overall (3-6 IIAC) and will be back in action next weekend when the team hosts the University of Dubuque in a three-game weekend series beginning with Friday’s nine-inning contest which begins at 6:00pm.
