For his efforts out of the bullpen for the Buena Vista baseball team last week, senior righthander, James Stone, has been recognized by the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference as its Pitcher of the Week.
Stone improved to 4-1 out of the bullpen with victories over Central and Loras and is now tied for eighth place on the program’s all-time list with 14 career wins. He also entered the second game of the Beavers’ doubleheader against Loras, pitched a career-high 5 2/3 innings on one day’s rest and struck out a career-high seven batters, receiving a no-decision in a 6-5, 12-inning win over the Duhawks.
He pitched the final 2.2 innings in the finale against the Dutch on Tuesday afternoon, allowing two hits and striking out two, as BVU posted three runs in the bottom of the inning to win, 6-5. He then pitched a scoreless ninth inning in the series opener with Loras on Saturday, walking one and striking out one, as the Beavers again rallied for a run in the bottom half to win 4-3.
Buena Vista is now 19-15 overall (11-9 IIAC) and will be back on the field on Wednesday afternoon for a 3:00pm Iowa Conference road contest at Central College. The team then wraps up the Iowa Conference regular season with a three-game weekend series at Wartburg, beginning with Friday's nine-inning game at 6:00pm
