Buena Vista senior linebacker Nick Plueger (Le Mars, Iowa/Le Mars) has been named to the 2012 All-West Region Football Second Team as announced by D3football.com on Tuesday, December 4. It’s the first time he has earned such honors in his career, and he’s the first BVU football player to do so since 2008 (Rahn Franklin, Jr.; Second Team; DB).
Plueger led all of Division III during the regular season in tackles per contest (14.2). He finished the year with 142 overall, falling just six shy of matching the BVU all-time single-season mark.
After finishing with nine total stops in the season-opener against UW-Platteville, Plueger finished the season with nine straight games with at least 10 total stops. A First Team All-IIAC selection this season, he registered at least 13 tackles in six of the seven league contests, including 16 against Loras. He posted a career-best 20 at Concordia-Moorhead.
Plueger was one of eight players from the IIAC to be selected to one of the three teams. The teams, selected in balloting by West Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 215 nominations by DIII members. A total of 75 players were chosen.
