For the second straight season, Buena Vista senior women's soccer player Kellyn Arnold has been voted to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team, as announced late Thursday. Arnold's name will now be listed on the national ballot for Academic All-American, where a first, second and third team selection will be announced later this month.
The All-District teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), are to recognize the nation’s top student‐athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA’s Academic All‐America teams programs since 2011.
Arnold, who was a Third Team Capital One Academic All-American as a junior following last season, led the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) this year with a career-high and school-record 20 goals, a mark which was also the seventh-highest total in all of Division III when BVU's season ended. Aside from reaching that school record, she also set records in points (44), shots (86) and game-winning goals (4). She was a key contributor on a BVU team that set a new school record for wins in a season (10) and also finished with the program's first-ever winning record.
A native of Minnetonka, Minn., Arnold posts a 3.96 cumulative GPA in Mathematics. She was one of two IIAC players to land a spot on the team and is looking to become only the first player in program history to become a two-time Academic All-American.
