Buena Vista junior Brian Broll (Chaska, Minn./Waconia) is gearing up for his third trip to the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships, which take place this Friday and Saturday (March 9-10) at the La Crosse Center in La Crosse, Wis.
The 184-pounder, who is ranked 10th nationally, is making his third straight trip to the national tournament and is looking to gain All-American honors for the first time. Just two weeks ago, he earned the Iowa Conference's automatic berth to the NCAA's by taking second during the IIAC Championships.
Broll, who's already set a career-high in wins this season (31-4) is 86-19 overall in his career. He's looking to become the first All-American at 184 pounds for BVU since Dave Doebel placed fourth back in 2001. He'll have a first round bye at this year's national tournament before facing fifth-seed and seventh-ranked Dave Dwyer of Wisconsin-Whitewater in the second round.
Austin Mogg was the last two gain All-American honors for the Beavers, when he placed fifth as a freshman at 125 pounds back in 2010.
Wrestling on Friday is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
