Loras College scored runs in three of the first four innings, including four in the third, before adding two more runs late en route to a 9-0 victory over the Buena Vista baseball team on Thursday afternoon in the opening game for both teams at the Iowa Conference Baseball Tournament inside of Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Duhawks broke a scoreless game with back-to-back two-out base hits in the second before a big four-run third broke the game open. They went on to add the final run with one out in the fourth.
Buena Vista, which was out-hit, 14-4 in the contest, got singles from Nick Schlecht, Brandon Wessels, Tanner Truesdell and Joe Paletta.
The Beavers were also charged with four errors, defensively.
Junior righthander Jon Ringblom suffered the loss after allowing seven runs (four earned) on 10 hits in six innings, despite striking out six and walking none. Senior Tyler Lefeber came on and worked the final three innings, allowing two runs on four hits.
Buena Vista is now 23-18 overall and will face #4 Central College in an elimination game on Friday morning beginning at 10:00am.
