Freshman Tori Carson broke a 1-1 contest with her eighth goal of the year midway through the 72nd minute on Saturday afternoon, to help send the Buena Vista women’s soccer team to a thrilling 2-1 non-conference road victory over Wisconsin Lutheran (1-5-1).
Sarah Kensinger took a pass from Shelby Ripperger midway through the first half to put the Beavers on the board first, 1-0. Just seconds later, however, Wisconsin Lutheran, which tallied only four shots in the match, tied things up at 1-1, and that’s the way the match stood until Carson’s late goal.
BVU out-shot Wisconsin 8-4 in the opening half and 15-4 overall. Carson posted a team-high four shots, including three on-goal, with Kensinger and Kellyn Arnold next with three shots each.
Jaclyn Pfeifer went the distance in-goal for the Beavers, allowing just the one goal, to go along with one save.
Buena Vista (6-0-1) has now gone seven straight matches without a loss to start the year, setting a new school record for the longest unbeaten streak at any point during the season.
The Beavers will look to make it eight straight outings without a loss when it takes on Alverno College on Sunday afternoon at 1:30pm.
