The Buena Vista athletic department has hired Micah Rhodes and Beth Krysiak to fill the assistant volleyball and softball openings, respectively. Both will begin their duties on campus later this summer.
Rhodes brings with him a wealth of experienced gained from being a student manager, office staff assistant and video coordinator with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln volleyball program from June 2008 thru May 2011. During his time associated with the Huskers, the team posted an overall mark of 86-13 (53-7 Big 12). In 2010-11 he was Vice-President for the UN-L Men’s Club Volleyball. A 2011 graduate of UN-L with a B.A. degree in Journalism, Rhodes has spent the last three years as an Assistant Manager and the “visual team” leader at American Eagle Outfitters in Sioux City, Iowa/Lincoln, Neb.
Krysiak joins the Beaver softball program after serving the last two years as a graduate assistant at Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kan., while earning her masters of education degree in curriculum and instruction. During that time, she worked primarily with the pitchers and catchers and saw the team post back-to-back 30-win seasons.
She played collegiately at NAIA Centenary College of Louisiana at Shreveport and was a four-time letterwinner as a utility player. Throughout her career, she played in 96 games and saw playing time at catcher, third base, first base and outfield. As a senior, she led the team during Summit League play with a .300 average. For her career, she committed only six errors, defensively, in more than 100 total chances.
Krysiak graduated in 2010 with a B.A. degree in Exercise Science and Psychology
Interim director of athletics Brian Van Haaften made the hires and is excited to have both individuals on board.
“Micah comes to us with some great experiences at Nebraska,” he says. “He and Coach Lori Slight will be a great combination and will help bring the BVU volleyball program to a new level.”
“Beth will be an excellent addition to our softball program at BVU,” he adds. “Her playing and coaching experience at the college level will be a great help to our student-athletes and Coach Hupke.”
