
Sophomore point guard Susan Kies (Fonda, Iowa/Newell-Fonda) turned in a career-high 18 points, while junior Brooke Wehle (Denison, Iowa/Denison-Schleswig) followed with 13, but it was league-leading Coe College (12-4, 6-1 IIAC) which prevailed inside of Eby Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon, 85-67.
Kies finished the game shooting 6-og-16 from the field, including 3-of-9 from downtown. She also went 3-of-4 at the free-throw line. Wehle went 5-of-13 from the field, including a pair of three’s, as the Beavers connected on just 7-of-26 from long range in the contest. Senior Jessica Christensen (Turin, Iowa/West Monona) was held to single digits (7) for the first time this season, but did turn in a team-high 10 rebounds and added two steals.
BVU led 11-5 in the early going before the Kohawks used a 23-6 run over the next seven minutes to build a 28-17 lead. They later bumped it up to 19 at 42-23 with two minutes to go in the opening half and took a 44-28 lead into the break.
BVU was able to get only as close as 14 in the second half, while Coe led by as many as 21 over the final 20 minutes.
Kayla Waskow scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed 20 rebounds for the Kohawks, which shot 48 percent from the field in the game and held a slight rebounding edge over the Beavers, 50-45.
Buena Vista is now 8-7 overall (3-3 IIAC) and returns back to Siebens Fieldhouse on Monday night, January 16, for a 6:00pm tip-off against Loras College (8-7, 3-3 IIAC).
