Fast Start Sends Women's Soccer to 7-2 Victory over Alverno

Sep. 16, 2012
Milwaukee, Wis.

Buena Vista senior Kellyn Arnold (Minnetonka, Minn./Hopkins) turns in her fourth hat trick of the year and junior Shelby Ripperger (Lee’s Summit, Mo./Lee’s Summit North) dishes out a career-high four assists, as the women’s soccer team extends its school record unbeaten streak with a commanding 7-2 non-conference road victory at Alverno College (2-4) on Sunday afternoon.

BVU broke open a 4-0 advantage midway through the opening period.  Freshman Tori Carson (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Washington), who knocked through the game-winner for the Beavers on Saturday, got the scoring started with her ninth goal of the year after Ripperger led her ahead on the breakaway less than two minutes in.  Just one minute later, Carson fed Arnold on the left side from about 15 yards out for a 2-0 lead before Ripperger connected with Arnold early in the 22nd minute.

Sophomore Sam Richards (Glenwood, Iowa/Glenwood) gave the Beavers the four-goal lead two minutes later on another feed from Ripperger on a corner kick.  BVU out-shot Alverno, 10-3, in the first half.

The Inferno cut the lead in half with a pair of goals separated by just two minutes midway through the second half before Ripperger hooked up with Arnold for the second time to push the margin back to 5-2 and register her sixth assist of the year.

Ripperger wasn’t done either, as she posted her fifth goal in 2012 with a late goal during the 85th minute, as minutes later Casey Tims (Papillion, Neb./Daniel Gross Catholic) chalked up her first goal of the year for the game’s final score.

Arnold finished with a game-high six shots, including four on-goal with Carson adding four shots.

Freshman Jaclyn Pfeifer (Kansas City, Mo./Oak Park) got the start and played the entire first half without allowing a goal or facing a single shot-on-goal.  Senior Turissa Moreland (Kiron, Iowa/Denison-Schleswig) played the final 45 minutes.

With the win, the Beavers (7-0-1) extend their unbeaten streak to eight matches and also move within one win of matching the school record for wins in a season (8) set last season.  They can match that school record on Thursday afternoon when they travel to Faith Baptist Bible College for a 2:30pm contest.
