Margaret Gordon Ashbaugh Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Mrs. Ashbaugh SL'36 to help needy
young people receive a higher education at Buena Vista. Mrs. Ashbaugh
was a long-time teacher and principal in Boone, Iowa, and a supporter
of BV.

R.C. Baker Foundation Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship provides financial assistance for students in the Harold Walter Siebens School of Business.
Neil Ball Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1999 by Bill and Ronda Marshall and
the Class of 1999 in honor of the late Neil Ball, BVU's beloved night
watch employee. This scholarship is awarded to a student who
demonstrates a commitment to helping fellow classmates and/or has
volunteered in the Storm Lake community.
Jay Beekmann Endowed Scholarship This scholarship was established by Dr. Jay SL'42 and Jean SL'42 Beekmann to serve students with financial need and academic ability. Dr. Beekmann served his alma mater for many years as physical education professor, baseball coach, and athletic director.
Biblical Studies Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1994 by a grant from Presbyterian
Church (USA). The scholarship is open to all students regardless of
their field of study.
Harry Blackmun Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was funded through a gift from Justice Harry Blackmun,
BV's first American Heritage Lecture Series laureate. The scholarship
is awarded to a student who is a junior and plans to go to law school
after graduation. Nomination letters must be submitted to the Dean of
Faculty.
Beth Brotherton Blum Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2001 by Charles and Betty
Brotherton in memory of their daughter. Students selected for the
scholarship is in good academic standing and show financial need.
George M. Bodaken and L.J. (Pete) Zubradt Communications Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually. Preference is given to students
majoring in corporate communications. Second preference is given to
students majoring in mass communication and/or students preparing for
careers in law.
Bomgaars Annual Scholarship
The Bomgaars Annual Scholarship is funded through gifts from Bomgaars
Supply. These gifts fund a scholarship will provide financial support
to BVU students with preference given to a student(s) who is a Bomgaars
employee or a dependent of an employee and maintains a GPA of 3.0 or
higher. There are awards for both Storm Lake campus and Center students.
Dr. Audrey Brecher Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Dr. Audrey Brecher SL'60, a former
professor of education and BV Trustee. The scholarship is available to
students majoring in elementary education who demonstrate financial
need.
H. Dale and Lois Bright Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Bright Foundation for Buena
Vista students from Wayne County or southern Iowa with financial need.
E. Joanne (Purinton) Bristol Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship, established through the estate of Sadie Purinton in
honor of her daughter Joanne, is awarded to a junior or senior art
student with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
Jessie Brown Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Alex F. and Jane E. Brown in memory
of Jesse Brown. The scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving
student(s).

William and Rose Cairnes Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honor of Dr. William Cairnes, a
long-time Trustee, and his wife, Rose. The scholarship is awarded
annually to students attending Buena Vista University.
Michele Hartwig Cameron Annual Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established in 2007 in memory of Michele Hartwig
Cameron by her brother, Rod Hartwig, SL'85. The annual scholarship will
be used to provide scholarships for students who are Junior banking and
finance majors with a GPA of 3.5 or above.
Lewis and Gerda Christiansen Endowed Scholarship
One half of this scholarship is awarded annually to a student attending
Buena Vista University. The other half is used to assist the University
in the recruitment and selection of North American Indian students to
attend BVU.
Marvin and Lucille Christensen Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was funded through a gift from Marvin and Lucille
Christensen in 2000. The scholarship is awarded annually to students
with financial need and preference is given to non-varsity athletes.
Joyce Claussen Music Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students majoring in music.
Gertrude Cooley Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of BVU Trustee E. Wayne Cooley's wife, Gertrude, who died of cancer in 1982.
Cornerstone Guard Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the graduating Class of 1940 as a class project.
Don and Mildred Cox Restricted Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Dr. and Mrs. Cox to be awarded
annually to a student in their junior year majoring in English.
Dr. William Cumberland Writing Award
The award is for a senior student selected by the faculty who best
demonstrates excellent writing and research skills. This award was
established in Dr. Cumberland's name by Steven R. Smith SL'68.
N.H. Curtis Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to deserving students.

Prentice Dean Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to qualified students with financial need.
Cuba Deppe Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1997 from the estate of Cuba Deppe,
longtime Buena Vista County resident. This scholarship is awarded to
students with financial need.
Frank and Anna Dobler Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to deserving students with financial need.
Nell Dohrmann Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established through the estate of Nell Dohrmann to
aid students attending BVU who graduated from Storm Lake High School or
Storm Lake St. Mary's High School.
Irvin and Ruby Dvergsten Endowed Fund for Students Attending the Storm Lake Campus
The purpose of the fund is to provide an endowment fund, withdrawals
which shall be used for significant scholarships for Spencer, Iowa,
high school graduates (or the School's future partners) to be awarded
to incoming freshmen who have a 3.56 GPA, 23 ACT, or in the top 25% of
their class. The award is renewable. The scholarship was established in
2007 through the Dvergsten Foundation.
Irvin and Ruby Dvergsten Lakes & Prairies Center Endowment Fund
The purpose of the fund is to provide an endowment fund, withdrawals
which shall be used for significant scholarships for the neediest
full-time students attending the Lakes & Prairies Center who reside
in and around Spencer, Iowa. The award is renewable. The scholarship
was established in 2007 through the Dvergsten Foundation.

Agnes Eichler Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2001, this scholarship is awarded to students who are in
at least their junior year and are majoring in education or special
education.
Tom D. Eilers Memorial Scholarship
In 1967, Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen Field Supervisors (UTUIA)
established an annual scholarship at BV in honor of the late Tom D.
Eilers. The scholarship is in recognition of the service rendered by
Mr. Eilers to the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen and Mr. Eilers'
interest in BV. The scholarship shall be awarded to a child or
grandchild of a member or deceased member of the UTUIA or predecessor
organization. The student must rank in the upper 40% of his/her
graduating class.
Clara M. Evans Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the late Clara M. Evans of Early,
Iowa. The scholarship is awarded annually to a worthy student from
Crestland Community High School or its successors.
Shirley Evans Ward Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2007, the purpose of the fund shall be to provide
scholarships to deserving women defined as women in good academic
standing and good campus citizens. Preference shall be given to one or
two women recipients. Priority shall be given to potential women
recipients from Early, Iowa. Second preference shall be given to women
who attended the Nemaha-Schaller-Crestland School or its successor, and
third preference to women from Northwest Iowa.

BVU Facilities Management Endowed Scholarship
This
scholarship was established by members of the BVU Facilities Management
staff through the annual Faculty and Staff Campaign. The scholarship is
intended to recognize a student during their senior year who has worked
with Facilities Management.
Maye L. Farel Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Maye L. Farel, SL'34, a
long-time teacher and grade school principal in Storm Lake. This
scholarship is to contribute toward tuition costs of a woman student of
sophomore standing who is demonstrating financial need, plans to enter
a career in education and maintains a 3.0 GPA.
First United Presbyterian / Fort Dodge Center Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1984. Scholarship recipients will
be selected on the basis of financial need and dedication to their
vocational pursuit. Preference will be given to qualifying students
from the First United Presbyterian Church of Fort Dodge and second
preference to students who are members of any Presbyterian church. If
no one qualifies in the previous two preferences, the financial aid
director may select any qualifying student submitting application.
Applications must be submitted by February 1 each year.
First Presbyterian Church - Estherville, Iowa, Scholarship
Established in 1993, the First Presbyterian Church of Estherville,
Iowa, Scholarship is awarded to Emmet County students of Presbyterian
faith who are preparing for Christian Ministry.
First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, Minnesota, Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student(s) training
for a church vocation or to a student(s) who shows promise of becoming
an active church lay leader.
Willamette Morse Foster Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the late Willamette Morse Foster,
SL'31, for students majoring in business education or business.
Ted Fritcher Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2002 by BVU Trustee, Doris
Fritcher, in memory of her husband, Ted. The scholarship is awarded to
a student(s) who demonstrates financial need.

Gary and Sharon Garton Scholarship
The fund was established by the Garton's in 2007. This annual gift will
be used to provide scholarships for students planning to major or
currently majoring in science with an emphasis in biology, chemistry
and/or physics. Recipients must display financial need and be in good
academic standing.
Gilbert and LaVerne Geisinger Endowed Scholarship
The
Gilbert and LaVerne Geisinger Endowed Scholarship was established in
1999 by BV Life Trustee Gilbert Geisinger and his wife, LaVerne. The
scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate financial need and
academic competence. First priority should be given to students from
Storm Lake and Early, Iowa, second to students from Buena Vista County
and third to students from Northwest Iowa. If no qualified candidates
are available from these areas, the scholarship is awarded simply to
needy students.
Frances Geisinger Endowed Scholarship
Oscar J. and Tena Grau Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a junior or senior who has
maintained a high academic average, demonstrated outstanding qualities
of leadership and citizenship and shown a firm commitment to the
Christian faith.
Will B. Green Endowed Music Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to an academically qualified
student(s) with a major interest in music. The fund was established by
the family, colleagues and friends of Will B. Green, former bandmaster
and chairperson of the Fine Arts Division at Buena Vista.
Reuben and Mildred Griffith Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student. Selection
is made by the college's financial aid committee and is based on need
and academic ability.
Harlan Gutz Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2005 in honor of Harlan Gutz. The
purpose of the fund is to provide an endowment fund, the income of
which shall be used to award annual scholarship(s) to deserving
non-traditional students studying business at the Storm Lake campus.

Duane Haack Memorial Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established in 2004 in memory of Duane Haack, a
long-time BV English professor. The purpose of the fund is to award
annual scholarships to students who display financial need, as
determined by the University guidelines, and who are in good academic
standing in pursuit of a degree. The students must be studying or
intending to study English or a closely related field of study.
Preference is given to students from Iowa.
Stanley and Virginia Haahr Endowed Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was established by Mr. Haahr SL'36, a
long-time Storm Lake businessman, to assist worthy students attending
BVU.
Clarence Hadenfeldt Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a student(s) from Iowa or
Minnesota on the basis of character, academic ability and financial
need. The scholarship is funded by a gift from the late Clarence
Hadenfeldt SL'30.
Gwenna Hadenfeldt Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a student from Iowa or
Minnesota on the basis of character, academic ability and financial
need. The scholarship was funded by a gift from the late Gwenna
Hadenfeldt SL'30.
Louis and Lillie Hadenfeldt Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honor of Louis and Lillie
Hadenfeldt by their son, Clarence SL'30. Recipients of the scholarship
are selected on the basis of character, academic ability and financial
need.
Thelma Halling Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student who is selected by the BV's Financial Aid Office.
Russell and Hazel Hansen Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the estate of Dr. Russell and Hazel
Hansen. The only criterion for this scholarship is that it be used to
provide financial aid to worthy students.
Ivan Harlan Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship will be awarded annually to a junior or senior with a
GPA of 3.75, with preference given to science and history majors. This
scholarship was established in 2001 from memorial funds given for Ivan
Harlan, former BV Vice President for Student Services.
Ira Heikens Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student(s). The
scholarship was established in memory of Ira Heikens by his wife, the
late Mrs. Alma Davidson of Storm Lake, Iowa.
Leo Charles Heinen Endowed Science Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a senior student(s) who have
demonstrated academic ability. The scholarship was established in
memory of Leo Charles, SL'65 by his mother, family and friends.
Additional contributions were later added as a tribute not only to Leo
Charles but also in memory of his grandparents, Charles and Ida Lamont.
Dorothy Sampson Held Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2000 by Mr. Fritz Held in memory of
his wife, Dorothy SL'38. The scholarship is granted to students who
demonstrate financial need and who have chosen to study at BVU.
Ervin C. Henning Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship was established through the estate of Mr. Henning. The
scholarship is awarded to graduates of Storm Lake High School who rank
in the upper 25% of their class and demonstrate financial need.
Harriet Henry Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Harriet Henry, longtime
BV coach. The scholarship will be awarded annually to female exercise
science majors who are in their junior or senior year with a minimum of
3.0 GPA.
Roger A. Higgins-Koepp Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student(s). The
scholarship was established by family and friends in memory of Roger A.
Higgins of Webb, Iowa.
Dr. Wayne Higley Endowed Scholarship in Accounting
This scholarship was established in 2004. The purpose of the fund is to
provide an endowment fund the income of which shall be used for
scholarships to attract and retain students who have the abilities and
desire to become outstanding accounting professionals.
Dr. Albert F. Hirsch Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student(s). The
scholarship was established by Rudolph L. Hirsch and Mrs. Hanna Block
in memory of their parents, Dr. Albert F. and Mrs. Lilly Hirsch.
Dr. Marjorie Holmes Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by world-renowned author Margorie
Holmes SL'29. It is awarded annually to deserving students who have a
desire and the qualifications to pursue a writing career. Selection of
student recipients is made by the School of Communication and Arts and
Financial Aid Office.
Pauline and Arlene Houston Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the late Arlene Houston SL '59 and
sister Pauline Houston SL'58. The scholarship is awarded to students
living in Iowa who are interested in teaching with preference given to
students from O'Brien, Clay and Dickinson Counties. Both Pauline and
Arlene were long-time teachers in Iowa schools.
John Hughes Family Education Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2007 by John Hughes III and Pamela
Hughes (MS'99). The purpose of the scholarship shall be to award an
annual scholarship to a female student(s) attending Buena Vista
University pursuing a career in education. The student(s) must be a
junior or senior planning a career in teaching.
Dr. William H. Hunter Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established through the estate of Dr. William H.
and Huldah Hunter in 2004. The purpose of the fund is to provide an
endowment fund, the income of which shall be used for scholarships for
deserving students who need encouragement, based on financial need as
determined by the University's Financial Aid Office.
W.J. and M. Hunzelman Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established from a gift from William J. and
Marjorie Hunzelman. The scholarship is awarded to a student(s) who is
actively enrolled and in good standing in BVU's School of Business. The
student(s) must be entering the junior or senior year and major in the
accounting field.

The Iowa College Foundation, founded in 1952, has as its primary
purpose to solicit support from the business community, foundations and
individuals on behalf of its member private Iowa colleges and
universities. Buena Vista University is a member and awards these Iowa

C.F. Inman Endowed Music Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to academically qualified students
majoring in music. The scholarship was funded by a gift from Mr. and
Mrs. C.F. Inman.
International Student Scholarship
This institutional scholarship fund is used to assist deserving foreign students attending Buena Vista who have financial need.
Iowa Office Supply Scholarship
This scholarship was established to assist deserving students attending
Buena Vista University. Preference is given to students who wish to
major in business and go into sales upon graduation.

C.P. Jackson Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of C.P. Jackson, a former
resident of Estherville, Iowa. Awards are made by the Financial Aid
Office.
Jude and Ethel Jenson Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1998 through the estate of Ethel
Jensen. The only requirement for this scholarship is to provide
scholarship assistance to worthy applicants for enrollment at BVU.
Assistance should go to a freshman each year.
C.J. and Sue Johnston Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving Buena Vista
student(s) and is based on need and academic ability. Selection is made
by the college's Financial Aid Office.
Nellie G. Jones Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a female graduate of Storm Lake
High School on the basis of need, character and academic ability. The
scholarship was established by the estate of Nellie G. Jones of Storm
Lake, Iowa.
Lena I. Julius Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student on the
basis of character, academic ability and financial need. The
scholarship was funded by a gift from Mrs. Lena I. Julius, Storm Lake
resident and businesswoman.

The Merle Kahuda Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Miss Merle Kahuda and is available
to assist deserving young people who desire to attend Buena Vista
University.
Clyde and Esther Kislingbury Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Dr. Kent and Mary Don Kislingbury
in honor of his parents. The scholarship is awarded annually to a
student(s) attending Buena Vista University. Selection is made by the
Financial Aid Office.
Kraemer-Taylor Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Opal Kraemer Taylor SL'21
and her brother, Orville B. Kraemer SL'26. The scholarship was
established through the estate of Mrs. Taylor and is awarded annually
to worthy students in the fields of science or literature.
Clyde and Marcia Krause Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students who are majoring in some field
within the Harold Walter Siebens School of Business with regard to
financial need.
Gladys and Ted Kuehl Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a senior student who is a
member of Circle K. Mr. Kuehl and his wife, Gladys, were instructors at
Buena Vista.
Mary Kuhlmann Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Session of the First
Presbyterian Church, Algona, Iowa, in memory of Mary Kuhlmann. The
scholarship is awarded annually by BV with the concurrence of the
Session of the First Presbyterian Church. Preference will be given to
academically qualified students who require financial aid as determined
by BV and who are foreign students, if possible, or who reside in the
Algona area. Priority given: 1) foreign students, 2) students from
Algona, 3) other.

Jake and Phoebe LaFoy Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a BV student(s). The
scholarship was established by the family and friends of Jake LaFoy,
former director of admissions at Buena Vista, and his wife, Phoebe,
former admissions counselor.
Albert and Emma Lage Scholarships
This scholarship is awarded annually to graduates of Holstein High School (or its successors) on the basis of academic ability.
Donald and Candace Packard Lambie
This scholarship was established by former BV Trustee Donald Lambie and
his wife, Candace Packard Lambie. This scholarship is available for
students at Buena Vista with academic merit and financial need.
Lampe Life-Long Learning Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honor of Elwood and Verna Lampe.
The purpose of the fund is to provide scholarship support to
non-traditional age student(s) who has/have completed a minimum of two
years of undergraduate coursework and, after an extended lapse in
collegiate coursework, is enrolling at Buena Vista University as a
junior or senior to complete his/her baccalaureate degree.
Langenberg Endowed Scholarship
Donald & Frankie Larsen Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship established by Don and Frankie Larsen shall be awarded
to student(s) students majoring in either Math or Science with
preference given to students from the Sioux Central Community School
District (Sioux Rapids, Iowa area) or Clay Central - Everly Community
School District (Everly, Iowa area).
Lashier Family Foundation Scholarship
This scholarship established in 2006, will be awarded annually to a
freshman in good academic standing in pursuit of a degree based on
University guidelines. The student must be majoring in education and
pursuing a teaching degree.
Charles Lehnus Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship, established in 2002, is awarded to students majoring
in religion or philosophy and religion, in good academic standing and
who demonstrate financial need.
Le Mars Presbyterian Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Le Mars Presbyterian United Church
of Christ for Buena Vista students from their congregation or from
Plymouth County.

Leonard & Louise Martz/BV Women Scholarship
The Leonard and Louise Martz/BV Women Scholarship fund was established
in 1986 through an initial contribution from the BV Women. This
scholarship will be awarded to non-traditional students either on
campus or at one of the Centers.
Robert and Anna Maria McComb Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student(s). The
scholarship was established by Mary E. McComb SL'09, the daughter of
Robert and Anna Maria McComb.
Paul and Vivian McCorkle Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Trustees Paul and Vivian SL'59
McCorkle. The scholarship is awarded annually to a needy junior or
senior with academic ability and major in elementary education.
John McDonald Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student(s).
Selection is made by the Financial Aid Office and is based on need and
academic ability.
Mack Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is a living testament to the generations of the Mack
Family who have attended Buena Vista and/or have supported this great
institution for so many years. The scholarship is awarded annually to a
deserving student(s) who demonstrates financial need.
Mrs. Louis Madison Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving Buena Vista student(s), based on academic achievement.
John and Catherine Malone Pre-Law Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to deserving students intending to
prepare for a career in law. The scholarship was established by Mrs.
John Malone in memory of her husband, a long-time attorney in Sioux
Rapids, Iowa.
Marketlink Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to a student(s) in his/her sophomore year
or beyond. The student will have declared a major within the School of
Business and have attained a cumulative average of 3.2 or above.
Larry & Gwendolyn Martin Endowed Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship, established in 2001, is to award
annual scholarships. The scholarship shall be awarded to students
studying education, with preference given to students studying business
education.
Mack Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is a living testament to the generations of the Mack
Family who have attended Buena Vista and/or have supported this great
institution for so many years. The scholarship is awarded annually to a
deserving student(s) who demonstrates financial need.
Master Teacher Scholarship
Rex and Velma Mather Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2000 to provide scholarship support to students studying English or Education.
Meinhard Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1997 by Dr. Meinhard SL'40 and his wife, Iris D.
Meinhard, this scholarship recognizes and rewards students for
outstanding volunteer service to the University, their community and
church. Eligible students shall be completing their junior year at
BVU's Storm Lake campus.
Elizabeth and Richard Merten Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1996. The scholarship is intended
to be awarded to a non-traditional student. If there is not a
non-traditional student, it is left to the discretion of the Financial
Aid Office to award.
Margaret Burkholder Mett Scholarship
This scholarship established in 2001 shall be awarded to students on
the basis of the student having a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4 point
scale. The students will also be a Junior or Senior English major with
an emphasis on writing.
MidAmerican Energy Scholarship
The MidAmerican Energy Scholarship program is funded by the MidAmerican
Energy Company. Its purpose is to provide encouragement and to reward
talented students at BVU who have expressed an interest in engineering,
pre-engineering, environmental biology, information technology or
business.
Midwest Wireless Scholarship
This scholarship is funded by an annual gift from Midwest Wireless. It
is intended for first and second year students studying (or intending
to study) computer science or management information systems or a
closely related field. Preference is given to students from Iowa or
Minnesota.
Dr. R. Norris Miller Endowed Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a student(s) preparing for a
church vocation. The scholarship was established by the former
Presbytery of Northwest Iowa and its friends and churches in memory of
Dr. R. Norris Miller, Stated Clerk of the Presbytery from 1953 to 1967.
Marian Mills Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the family and friends of Marian
Mills, a long-time BV employee, and is awarded to deserving students.
First preference is given to students working for the admissions office
during their enrollment at BV.
Minority Incentive Scholarship
Millicent Mitchell Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established through the estate of Mrs. Millicent E. Mitchell SL'24 for continuing student aid.
Elmer and Lola Moe Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving Buena Vista
student(s) and is based on need and academic ability. Selection is made
by the Financial Aid Office. This scholarship was established by Lola
in memory of her husband, Elmer SL'29, who was a former teacher and
farmer in the Sioux Rapids area.
Julia V. Moore Endowment Fund
The Julia V. Moore Endowment Fund was established in 2005. The fund is
to provide need-based scholarships for students whose families are
paying U.S. taxes but prohibited from filing in the financial aid
system because of their immigration status, provided that they have
committed themselves to become U.S. citizens. Second preference shall
be given to students whose ethnicity makes them members of minority
groups. Third preference shall be given to women students majoring in a
natural science or allied health discipline.
Stephen V. Moore Special Education Scholarship
This scholarship was established by President Fred and Susan Moore in
the name of their son, Stephen. The scholarship is available to Buena
Vista University students majoring in special education.
Morningside Presbyterian Scholarship
This scholarship shall be awarded to students who are interested in pursuing a church-related vocation.
Phyllis L. Murphy Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established through the estate of Phyllis L. Murphy for BV students with financial need.

National Presbyterian Scholarship
This scholarship is available to students planning to enter one of the
Presbyterian colleges. Applicants must have been members of the
Presbyterian Church (USA) for at least one year prior to filing
application forms and must have ranked in the top quarter of their
secondary school class at the end of their junior year. Further
information may be obtained from Presbyterian ministers or from the
Financial Aid Office.
Lindsey-Neppel Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Judge Charles F. Pendleton, SL'48,
in memory of two Buena Vista students, Darrell Lindsey and Ralph
Neppel, both of whom received the Congressional Medal of Honor in World
War II. Available to students from Buena Vista County.
Jay G. and Lois F. Neubauer Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was made possible by a bequest from the estate of Jay
G. Neubauer of Storm Lake. The scholarship is available to students
majoring in business administration or pre-medicine.
Matthew Nieman Scholarship
The Matthew Nieman Scholarship was established in 2000 in honor of the
Reverend Matthew Nieman, BVU Class of 1992. Its purpose is to provide a
perpetual source of funds for financial assistance to students at Buena
Vista University exhibiting a commitment to spiritual life. First
preference shall be given to a junior or senior who has expressed the
intent of entering the seminary. Second preference given to students
majoring in religion and third preference to students with a religion
minor.
Nieman Family Scholarship
The Nieman Family Scholarship Fund was established by Francis SL'62 and
Beverly SL'62 Nieman in honor of Coach Merritt and Mareda SL'71 Ewalt. Students
who are pursuing a major in Education or Exercise Science, has a verified
financial need by the Financial Assistance Office and is in good standing
academically and socially are eligible for this scholarship. The scholarship is
renewable for up to four years.

Henry Olson Endowed Scholarship (travel stipend)
This scholarship was established by Ed Bock SL'40 to honor the memory
and service of Buena Vista College's 14th President, Henry Olson. The
scholarship is awarded to students who have made the most of his or her
talents and time at Buena Vista and is used for any meaningful purpose,
including foreign travel.
The Olson Endowed Scholarship for Special Education Majors
This scholarship was established in 1999 by Dr. Myron Olson SL'34 and
his wife, Eloise. The scholarship is awarded to students who have
demonstrated sincere interest and dedication to the Special Education
Field.
Bob and Dorothy Otto Scholarship
This scholarship was established from the estates of Bob and Dorothy Otto.

Herma L. Parker Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a student(s) on the basis of
financial need. The scholarship was established by the estate of Herma
L. Parker of Alta.
Carl G. Peterson Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by family and friends of Carl G.
Peterson, long-time automobile dealer in Cherokee and Storm Lake. The
scholarship is awarded to students from Cherokee and Storm Lake
majoring in business. The award is alternated between students from the
communities.
Robert Pfaltzgraff Music Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Miss Virginia Pfaltzgraff in memory
of her brother, Robert Pfaltzgraff, a professor in the music department
at Buena Vista for many years. The scholarship is awarded to students
majoring in music.
Howard and Lela Pierce Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Dr. Kelvin Pierce SL'36 in honor of
his parents to provide encouragement and reward to young men and women
from Buena Vista County who major in English, Mathematics or natural or
social science and who maintain a 3.0 GPA.
George and Ruth Pingrey Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1998 by the family of George and
Ruth Pingrey to become a lasting symbol of recognition of George and
Ruth's commitment and deep interest in the lives and education of young
people. The scholarship shall be awarded to students demonstrating
financial need and who maintain a good academic standing with the
University. Priority will be given to students studying finance and
then to all other fields of study within business.
Pioneer Hi-Bred International Scholarship
This annual scholarship established in 2001 is intended for students
from "small town" Iowa who have been in the top 25% of their high
school graduation class and who demonstrate financial need.
Joy Pitstick Endowed Music Scholarship
This scholarship was established by John and Joy SL'45 Pitstick to
provide encouragement and reward to young men and women who chose music
education as a course of study at Buena Vista University.
Alan Ray Purinton Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship, established through the estate of Sadie Purinton in
honor of her son Alan, is awarded to a junior or senior science student
with a GPA of 3.0 or above.

John Jacob Ressler Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of John Jacob Ressler by
Robert and Dorothy Ohrlund to assist academically deserving students
who have been selected on the basis of character and scholarship. While
not a mandatory requirement, special consideration is given to current
and former student employees and children of employees of Ressler Drug
Company.
Reader's Digest Foundation Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student. The
scholarship was established by the Reader's Digest Foundation of
Pleasantville, New York.
George and Florence Reynolds Memorial Endowed Scholarship Awarded annually to a student with scholarly potential. The scholarship was established by the family and friends of Dr. George Reynolds, professor of history and political science at Buena Vista from 1937 to 1972 and his wife, Florence.
Barney & Irene and Kirby & Linda Roberts Endowed Scholarship
e.g. Iowa Office Supply Scholarship
This scholarship was established to assist deserving students attending
Buena Vista University. Preference is given to students who wish to
major in business and go into sales upon graduation.
The Homer and Myrtle Roberts Endowed Scholarship Fund
This
scholarship was established in memory of Homer Roberts by his wife,
Myrtle SL'57, and also in recognition of Myrtle's long teaching career.
The scholarship is awarded to a student(s) majoring in the humanities.
George and Mildred Rosenfeld Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established to assist students who have been
selected on the basis of character and scholarship. Mr. Rosenfeld was a
former employee of BV.
Storm Lake Rotary Club Scholarship
This annual scholarship is awarded to an outstanding high school senior from the Storm Lake area by the Storm Lake Rotary Club.
F.W. "Bob" and Amy Ruliffson Endowed Scholarship
This annual scholarship is awarded to a student(s) on the basis of
need, citizenship and sincerity of purpose. Preference is given to a
student from northwest Iowa who is studying management, music, nursing,
medicine, chemistry, engineering or dentistry. The fund was established
by the friends and family of former Storm Lake Mayor "Bob" Ruliffson
and his wife, Amy Dahl Ruliffson.

This scholarship was established through the Wilford and Luella Sanford estate for deserving students with financial need.
Dorothea Grohe Secor Schrage Scholarship
This scholarship was established through the Dorothea Schrage estate
for deserving students, preferably in the fields of music and religion.
The John W. and Lillian Schultz Endowed Scholarship Fund
Selection for this scholarship is for deserving students based on
financial need, academic ability and will be awarded to one or more
students majoring in some facet of business. This scholarship was
established by Dorothy and Gordon Sheffield SL'36 in memory of her
parents.

Awarded by the Office of Financial Aid.
Shafer Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate financial need
and academic competence. Priority is given initially to students who
come to the University for the study of business or music.
The Ralph E. and Edna Sheffield Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Dorothy and Gordon Sheffield SL'36
with additional gifts from Paul SL'37 and Ruth Sheffield. The
scholarship is a memorial to Gordon and Paul's parents. The scholarship
is awarded to deserving students based on need and academic ability and
who are majoring in some facet of business.
Mary Jane Siebens Endowed Scholarship
J. Robert and Mary Siefer Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by J. Robert and Mary Siefer and is
available to all students attending Buena Vista. Dr. Siefer served the
college for many years as Vice President for Estate Planning and as
Interim President.
Fred E. Siefer Scholarship
This scholarship was formerly called the Marion Miller Siefer Memorial
Scholarship. The scholarship name was changed after the death of Fred
E. Siefer, former BV Trustee, by his wife, Martha. The scholarship is
granted to a Fort Dodge Center student, if possible. If not, it can be
awarded to anyone with academic abilities and financial need. Funds for
the scholarship come through an annual gift from the Siefer Charitable
Foundation.
Sara Slade Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student. Selection
is made by the Financial Aid Office and is based on need and academic
ability.
Verle Dean Smith Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was named for Mr. Smith SL'48 and awarded to needy
students in the field of physical science or business administration.
Ellis and Evalyn Stern Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Ellis Stern, a long-time attorney
of Storm Lake. The scholarship is awarded annually to deserving
students with financial need.
Lawrence and Lillian Stevenson Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2005 by Lawrence and Lillian
Stevenson. The scholarship is intended to provide an endowment fund,
the income of which shall be used for scholarships to students with
financial need, preference to be given to but not limited to students
from Wright or Humboldt Counties in Iowa.

This scholarship was established in memory of Opal Kraemer Taylor.
A.G. Thomas Social Work Scholarship
This scholarship was given in honor of A.G. Thomas on the occasion of
his retirement from Buena Vista by his family. The scholarship is
intended to be awarded to a financially needy member of a minority
group with first preference given to a social work major.
Throop Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1998 by former BV Trustee Harvey
McKenzie Throop and his wife, Helen. The scholarship is awarded to
students who demonstrate financial need and academic ability.
J.W. Tierney Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Cecile Tierney in memory of her son, Joseph W. Tierney SL'62 for deserving students.
William H. Timmins Restricted Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2001 in honor of William Timmins by
his wife, Shirley. The scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior
pursuing full-time Christian work.
Helen and Gerald Tupper Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Helen and Gerald Tupper for
students needing financial assistance who are majoring in biology,
business or music. The late Mr. Tupper served on BV's Board of Trustees
for several years.
The Tymeson Family Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to students on the basis of
financial need and who have chosen an area of business as his/her field
of study.

US Bancorp Piper Jaffrey Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Duane Miller to provide financial
support to a BVU student who has declared a major within the School of
Business.

Art and Phyllis VanGelder Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate financial need.
Fred and Ida Vast Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to worthy and deserving students of BV.
Jon, Ida and Frederick Vast Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is used by the college to assist needy students in
their education. It is awarded to freshmen and is in conjunction with
an academic scholarship.
Carroll Vaughn Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Carroll Vaughn, a former
BV professor in the School of Business. This restricted scholarship
shall be used to underwrite internships for talented students who show
merit and need in their internship endeavors. The funds will be awarded
by the School of Business Faculty.
Oliver W. Vilas Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship was established in memory of Oliver W. Vilas. The
scholarship is awarded annually to a graduate of Storm Lake High School
to help defray the student's first-year costs. The scholarship is
awarded on the basis of leadership, co-curricular school-sponsored
activities and good citizenship.
Wilbert and Joan Vilas Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2001. The scholarship shall be
granted to students who demonstrate financial need and academic
competence. First priority should be given to students from Storm Lake
or area students.
Irene C. and Robert E. Voss Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 1998. The Voss scholarship is
awarded to a student(s) with financial need that is majoring in
Education.

This scholarship was established by Irene Wagner SL'45 in 1991. The scholarship is awarded to a deserving student(s).
Geneva D. Watson Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by a gift from Geneva D. Watson for
students in their junior and senior year who have committed themselves
to a career in Christian service such as the ministry or Christian
education.
Mary R. Waterbury Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Mary Waterbury's family in honor or
her 90th birthday. The scholarship is awarded annually to deserving
students studying or planning to study education with preference to
those students majoring in elementary education or a related area.
Lorraine Weber Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a deserving student(s). The
scholarship was established by family and friends in memory of Lorraine
who was executive secretary and administrative assistant to the
president of the college.
Dr. William Wesselink Student Award
This award recognizes a junior student who has made the greatest
contribution to campus life. It is given in honor of the late Dr. W.D.
Wesselink who served the University in leadership positions for more
than 30 years.
Westensee Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to qualified students. The
scholarship was established by a gift from the estate of Martha
Westensee, a former student at Buena Vista and a teacher in Cherokee
and Buena Vista counties.
Westlawn Preministry Scholarship
This scholarship is sponsored by Westlawn Presbyterian Church, Sioux City, Iowa, to be awarded to pre-ministerial students only.
Z.Z. White Leadership Scholarship
This scholarship was established through the estates of Zeno Z. and
Madge White, long-time BV benefactors. The scholarship is intended to
recognize students whose abilities, interests, academic preparation and
personal qualities can be enhanced through participation in BV's
activities and leadership program.
James Aubrey Whitmer Scholarship
This scholarship was established by family and friends of James Aubrey
Whitmer. The scholarship is awarded annually to a junior or senior
majoring in speech and/or drama who demonstrates ability and need.
Dorothy Willhoite Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship was established due to Ms. Willhoite's interest and
desire to help students obtain a higher education at BV. Preference is
given to students majoring in music.
Mary Williams Memorial Endowed Scholarship
This scholarship, established in 2007 by Graff and Phyllis Williams in
memory of their daughter, shall be used to provide an annual
scholarship to a student pursuing a bachelor's degree in education with
an interest in special education and has a verified financial need.
Ella Witter Art Scholarships
This scholarship is awarded annually to outstanding students majoring in art.
Frances Witter Music Scholarships
This scholarship is awarded annually to outstanding students majoring in music.

This scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Youberg to provide an
endowment fund the income of which shall be used to award annual
scholarship(s) to deserving junior or senior students majoring in
education with an emphasis in math or science at the Storm Lake campus.
Donald W. Young Endowed Scholarship Fund
This scholarship, established in memory of his father by Dennis Young
SL'65 and Buena Vista University Trustee, is awarded to deserving
students.

"Chuck", who was Vice President for Business Affairs at Buena Vista for
