Make an impact by running a non-profit organization in Africa. Continue on to law school or become a college professor. Provide spiritual and moral guidance as a minister at your hometown church. The philosophy and religion major is excellent preparation for many professional careers including law, business and politics, or for continued study in philosophy, religious studies or the seminary.
As a philosophy and religion major at BVU, you will learn about the belief systems of the world’s dominant religious traditions and how they are connected to culture, politics and morality. The program will refine your communication and analytical reasoning skills, develop your ability to articulate difficult or abstract concepts, and equip you with ample problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities. You will also learn how to develop compelling arguments, conduct scholarly research, and carefully analyze important ethical issues. Additionally, the program encourages critical reflection on who you are and how you want to be in the world. Because all of these skills are applicable to many professional contexts and complement other disciplines so well, students majoring in philosophy and religion often declare a second major or minor.
The atmosphere at BVU is conducive to interdisciplinary experiences which provide faculty and students the opportunity to explore new material and learn about it from multiple perspectives. All this makes for an incredibly rich learning environment.
