As part of an expanded partnership with the Innocence Project of Iowa (IPI)—a nonprofit organization that seeks to prevent and overturn wrongful convictions in the State of Iowa—BVU’s criminology and criminal justice students who are also members of Lambda Phi (BVU’s chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, the National Criminal Justice Honor Society), have the unique opportunity to take an Innocence Project course for credit.
As part of the course, students review selected cases of individuals who claim to have been wrongly convicted of crimes. Their research includes reading trial transcripts and related documents, including police reports and depositions. BVU is the only four-year institution in the state to offer students an Innocence Project course for credit.
I truly appreciate the opportunity I have every day to mentor students and help them achieve their educational and life goals.
