Mr. Mark Hopkins

Mr. Hopkins, a Buena Vista University graduate, returned to BVU bringing years of experience in PK-12 public education. Professor Hopkins served as a teacher, principal, curriculum director, and superintendent. He has a strong interest in professional learning communities (PLC's), teacher leadership, instructional coaching, and standards-based instruction.
Professor Hopkins actively studies educational issues related to race, gender, and social class, and how these issues impact teachers and students in PK-12 public schools. Mark is currently conducting archival research about the history of Iowa's community colleges. The purpose of the research is to discover how early college officials developed comprehensive community colleges that were not limited to vocational-only education.
