Dr. Jill Tussey began teaching for Buena Vista University in 2012 as an adjunct instructor and moved into a full-time literacy faculty member position in 2017. In 2019, she transitioned to the role as the Division Chair of Literacy, Early Childhood, and TESL. Throughout her teaching career, she also has over a decade of teaching in the elementary setting. Dr. Tussey has presented at local, state, national, and international conferences over a variety of literacy topics. She has published articles, book chapters, and books all focused on various areas of literacy topics. Her area of professional interest includes student engagement and motivation with extra focus on digital literacy and poverty.

Dr. Tussey earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Buena Vista University in 2004 and her Master's Degree in Effective Teaching and Instructional Leadership from Buena Vista University in 2008. In 2016, she completed her doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Additionally, she earned a Literacy Coaching Certificate from Iowa State University in 2015 and an Elementary and Secondary Principal with Superintendent Specialist Degree from Northwest Missouri State University in 2019. The various college experiences have provided Dr. Tussey with a wealth of information to share with current and future students.
