Dr. Formichella-Elsden's professional engagement encompasses both creative writing and scholarly criticism. As a creative writer, she has published fiction and poetry in several literary magazines, As a scholar, she focuses on nineteenth- and twentieth-century American literature, specifically the contributions and accomplishments of women authors. In addition to critical articles that have appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, her book-length critical work, Roman Fever: Domesticity and Nationalism in Ninteenth-Century American Women's Writing, was published by the Ohio State University Press.
