Courses in exercise science and athletic training include hands-on experiences almost daily. Many programs provide maximum benefit when you combine them with internships, your chance to gain real-world experience and demonstrate your skills in a professional setting. In the sport management major, it is especially important that you complete an internship to immerse yourself in the working world of sports businesses.

Each athletic training student completes clinical experience totaling at least 900 hours under the direct supervision of a certified athletic trainer. Most of this experience comes from working with Buena Vista University student-athletes. Athletic training students are further encouraged to explore both on-campus research 'intraships' and off-campus internships. Among the off-campus programs students frequently intern with are summer camps offered by University of Wisconsin at Whitewater and J. Robinson Intensive Training Camps. Through these paid internships, you'll gain experience assisting practicing athletic trainers as they work with the high school students attending the programs.
