Prepare high school students for life after graduation. Teach a core subject that you’re passionate about, such as history, mathematics or English. Challenge students to think more deeply than they ever have before. BVU’s secondary education program will provide you with strong academic training and the professional skills needed to make you an effective middle school or high school teacher.
As a student seeking secondary licensure, you’ll major in the academic field in which you wish to teach at the middle or high school level. You will receive in-depth preparation in your chosen content area in addition to gaining a solid foundation in the field of education. As part of your studies, you will also be encouraged to attain supplemental endorsements to increase job opportunities after graduation. Upon successful completion of the program, you will earn a degree in your content area and acquire 5-12 teacher certification by the State of Iowa. If you plan to seek employment outside of Iowa, you will work closely with your professors to ensure that you meet the licensure requirements for any state. BVU’s secondary education program will provide you with extensive and varied field experience opportunities and the knowledge and skills needed to be a high quality educator.
Education is ever changing, yet some principles remain the same. At BVU, your involvement in deep conceptual teaching and learning—both as a student and as a future teacher—will prepare you to lead the change.
