Impact the lives of children. Share your passion for learning. Connect students to the world. The elementary education program at BVU will provide you with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experiences needed to become a highly effective teacher who is able to address the individual needs of diverse learners.
Beginning early in the program, you’ll have access to a wide range of field experiences that will allow you to connect academic theory to classroom practice. You will further enhance your skills through research, travel, co-curricular involvement, and volunteer opportunities at area schools and non-profit organizations. As an elementary education major, you’ll work closely with dedicated faculty who will walk you through the teacher certification process and ensure that you meet the licensure requirements for Iowa or for any state in which you wish to teach. The degree not only leads to K-6 teacher certification, but also to a reading endorsement that is built into the major. In addition, elementary education students are required to select an area of concentration and are encouraged to consider earning additional endorsements to increase marketability and depth of knowledge.
Education is ever changing, yet some principles remain the same. At BVU, your involvement in deep conceptual teaching and learning—both as a student and as a future teacher—will prepare you to lead the change.
