Copenhagen is set during World War II, when German physicist Werner Heisenberg and his Danish counterpart Niels Bohr, who together had revolutionized atomic science in the 1920s, find themselves on opposite sides as the war begins.
Heisenberg is instructed by Adolph Hitler to develop atomic weapons for Nazi Germany. Upon receiving this order, he travels to Copenhagen to get advice from his mentor Bohr. "Copenhagen" is playwright Michael Frayn's interpretation of the events that took place that night.
