“…taught me to think outside of the box”

Samantha Turnquist, Class of 2012

Hometown: Hartley, Iowa
Major: Communication Studies
Research title: “Tales from the dark side: An analysis of jealousy in intimate relationships”

“Research projects are a great way to see everything that you have learned come to life. My research project taught me to ask questions and pay attention to the world around me. There are always unanswered questions waiting to be explored. Research taught me to think outside of the box. I notice now that I view situations differently than I did before. I view everything as a learning experience.”

“...helped me gain insight”

Sheldon Paramore, Class of 2013

Sheldon Paramore

Hometown: Youngstown, Ohio
Major: Communication Studies
Research title: “Safe In His Arms: An Examination of the Persuasion within Gospel Music”

“I ultimately took away a greater understanding of communication theory and how it can be applied to one’s own life. Communication research is important because communication itself is so ambiguous and complex. It helps us gain a better understanding of communication and can help us understand ourselves better as well as those around us. More importantly, research can be personal like my project, which helped me gain insight into something that was important to me.”
