“...created a sturdy base for a life of learning”
Kathryn Van Zante, Class of 2012
Hometown: Baxter, Iowa
Research title: “Who Defines You: Colonialism's Effect on Contemporary Ghanaian Artwork”
Graduate School: Minneapolis College of Art and Design, working on Masters of Fine Arts Visual Studies, Painting and Drawing
"My honors research project was an opportunity for me to unpack my semester abroad. The research component allowed space to investigate postcolonial critique, cultural normatively, and globalization, while I allowed the art-making component to personally own these heavy topics. Completing this project allowed me to see the importance of applying research to my art-making process, and opened inquisitions I continue to follow as an artist. The project prepared me for expectations in graduate school and created a sturdy base for a life of learning."
