Intercultural Programs at BVU: Restructuring for Greater Unity
by Luis Ramirez
Faculty advisor: Dr. Elizabeth Lamoureux
In the past decade there has been a 16% increase in student diversity on the Buena Vista University campus (Hewett, 2010; Marcel, 2010). Much of this increase can be contributed to BV’s commitment to creating greater awareness and appreciation for diversity, for example our dynamic intercultural programming. Because perceptions of what constitutes “diversity” vary widely across campus, this has created unnecessary separation. This study will examine the merits of the current Intercultural Programs at Buena Vista University and provide possible recommendations for enhancing the quality of services and ongoing multicultural opportunities in an effort to unify the campus community.
