David Dvergsten to Join BVU Board of Trustees

Buena Vista University has announced that David Dvergsten of Storm Lake has been elected to the Board of Trustees.

Dvergsten is president and CEO of Security Trust & Savings Bank. He previously served as BVU Community Campaign co-chair in 1993 and Order of the Arch co-chair from 1997-1999.

“Dave is a tremendous servant of the University. He and his family have been generous benefactors of BVU for generations. Dave is a highly-respected member of the Storm Lake business community and will add tremendous value to the Board,” says BVU President Fred Moore.

Dvergsten earned his bachelors degree from the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY, in 1970.

Earlier in his career, Dvergsten spent five years in the Army and left as a captain. In 1975, he returned to Storm Lake to begin a career at Security Trust & Savings Bank. The bank has been in his wife’s family (Ballou) for over 100 years.

“The Ballou family has been a part of BVU from the beginning,” says Dvergsten. “The Dvergsten family has supported BVU from 1947, and I feel it is my turn to work at furthering the goals of this institution.”

His wife, Barbara, graduated from Kansas State University in 1972 and now spends her time as a home maker.

Dvergsten and his wife have three children: Christian, who works with nuclear power at Duke Energy; Benjamin, a vice president at Security Trust & Savings Bank; and Margaret, a speech language pathologist for the AEA.

Among his civic activities, Dvergsten has served on the Storm Lake Foundation Field of Dreams, served as chairman of Buena Vista Regional Healthcare Foundation and chairman of Storm Lake Area Development Corporation. He is also an elder at Lakeside Presbyterian Church.

His hobbies and outside interests include traveling, gardening and reading.
