Buena Vista University Theatre presented The Long Christmas Ride Home by American playwright Paula Vogel. Dr. Bethany Larson, associate professor of theatre, directed the play with technical design by David Walker, assistant professor of theatre.

Cast members included:

  • Man – Jarrod Roth, junior from Ethan, S.D., majoring in English education
  • Woman – Kylie Peterson, junior from Lincoln, Neb, with double majors in music education K-12 and vocal performance
  • Claire – Laura Schachtner, junior from Guthrie Center majoring in corporate communication
  • Rebecca – Kadie Dennison, sophomore from Lisbon majoring in theatre.
  • Stephen – Stephen Condon, freshman from Barnum with double majors in vocal music performance and theatre 
  • Minister – Carlos Rivadeneyra Salcedo, junior from Audubon majoring in computer science

Puppeteers:

  • Andrea Nicholson, sophomore from St. Paul, Minn., with double majors in theatre arts and arts management;
  • Cindy Barahona, a senior from Lakeside with double majors in art & communication and performance studies-theatre; 
  • Sahara Scott, a junior from St. Louis, Mo., majoring in theatre

In the play, past, present and future collide on a snowy Christmas Eve for a troubled family of five. A significant element of the performance involved contemporary use of bunraku, an ancient form of Japanese puppetry.
