An education conference for students called the Iowa Student Learning Institute (ISLI) is being planned. ISLI will be a day for students from Iowa and beyond to explore an answer to the question “How should school be redesigned for learning in the 21st century?” The day will feature speakers including a keynote address by Dr. Scott McLeod of Prairie Lakes AEA, the Director of the Iowa Department of Education, and student voice leader Zak Malamed. These will be followed by breakout sessions for students to share their experiences and ideas about any topic related to the theme, including but not limited to technology in the classroom, 1 to 1 programs, gamification, alternative schedules, project based learning, standards based grading, personalized learning, and student voice. ISLI will be held at Waukee High School on Saturday, October 5 from 9:30-3:30 (with registration opening at 8:00.) Visit http://isli2013.eventbrite.com/ to register or contact Pippa Fineran (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more details. College students interested in education are encouraged to apply as a presenter or session leader.
