The staff at the Center Against Abuse and Sexual Assault (CAASA) will complete another FREE Victim Counselor I training the weekend of Oct. 26, 27, and 28 on campus. The 24 hour training covers domestic and sexual abuse, child abuse and child sexual abuse, systems of oppression relative to violence, and civil and criminal remedies available to survivors. Accountability of perpetrators and strengths and weakness of the system in responding appropriately to domestic and sexual violence will also be addressed. Beginning level advocacy is included in the training. Those receiving the training would be eligible to volunteer or intern at CAASA programs, although Victim Counselor Training II is needed before you are able to work with victims. You must be able to commit to all of the training, from 3-10 on Friday night and 8-4 on Saturday and Sunday. If you wish to register you must make a $10 deposit to hold your place in the training. The $10 will be returned to you once you have completed the training. It is also expected that you contribute your time to CAASA or another similar program which might include helping at Buenafication Day, maybe answering phones at the office, or assisting with a fund raiser. We hope to host in the future Victim Counselor II training which students will need in order to work with survivors of violence or to complete an internship at any CAASA location. Please bring $10 cash or a check written out to CAASA to the office at SSA 100-C by Friday, October 12th to reserve your place in the training. Contact Ellen at 2121 or holmgrene@bvu.edu for more information.
